    Founded in 2008 under the leadership of Dr. Kemal Akkaya, ADvanced WIreless and SEcurity (ADWISE) Research Lab conducts research broadly on the networking, security and privacy aspects of Cyber-physical Systems (CPS) and Internet of Things (IoT). 

  • Cyber-Physical Systems Security Lab

    Primarily work on research problems at the intersection of the cybersecurity and networking fields with an emphasis on their practical and applied aspects. We design, build and analyze novel real-world systems, algorithms, and tools. The ultimate goal of our efforts in the CSL is to make today’s and tomorrow’s digital infrastructure and our lives more secure against malicious activities.
  • Center for Advancing Education and Studies on Critical Infrastructures Resilience (CAESCIR)

    Florida International University’s Center for Advancing Education and Studies on Critical Infrastructures Resilience (CAESCIR) is funded by a Scientific Leadership Award granted by the United States Department of Homeland Security. CAESCIR aims to improve our nation’s critical infrastructures security and resilience via an integrated research and education framework that covers Homeland Security Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (HS- STEM) areas of interest in computer science, information technology, and cybersecurity.
  • Center for Cyber Infrastructure Education and Research for Trust and Assurance

    The mission of CIERTA is to advance education in cyberinfrastructure trust and assurance, through new courses and degree programs.  Courses will be offered for undergraduate and graduate students in KFSCIS and will be open to other interested students with the proper backgrounds.  Some courses may be cross-listed with other departments (such as Mathematics and Statistics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Global and Sociocultural Studies).
  • Cyber Security and Private Research (CaSPR)

    The Cyber Security and Privacy Research (CaSPR) Lab develops efficient solutions to ensure a trustworthy use of mobile and social networks. Problems of interest include online service fraud and abuse, mobile authentication, social media validation, and cryptocurrencies.
  • Energy, Power & Sustainability Group

    In the past few years EPS team led by Dr. Arif Sarwat has been working on six funded projects; three of which are funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), one funded by the Department of Energy (DOE), and two from industries. This list includes the NSF CAREER Award (see NSF CAREER tab). The EPS team research interests include smart grids, electric vehicles, high penetration renewable systems, storage and battery management systems, grid resiliency, large-scale data analysis, artificial intelligence, advanced metering infrastructure, and smart city infrastructure and cybersecurity.
  • Critical Technologies and Intelligence Lab (CTAM Project)

    The Center's focus is to solve real-world problems through multi-disciplinary research collaborations within the University's increasingly talented applied and basic research units. The Applied Research Center will be uniquely structured and staffed to allow for a free-flowing exchange of ideas between the University's applied researchers, academia, government, private sector and industry partners.
  • Proactive Analytics and Data Oriented Research on Availability & Security (PANDORAS) Lab

    Fault restoration in a Smart Grid takes a considerable amount of time resulting in interruptions in day to day activities. ARIES project with the primary objective of (Autonomous) Fault Isolation and Service Restoration [FISR] is aimed at drastically reducing Customer Minutes of Interruption and Number of Customers Interrupted. Autonomous Fault Restoration improves the efficiency, situation awareness, operational intelligence visibility of utility engineers and operators and self-healing nature of the smart grid. This research focuses on grid data requirements, testing, analysis, data processing and implementing appropriate corrective actions keeping interoperability issues and industry standards in consideration

    The Energy Systems Research Laboratory conducts federally funded research projects related to electrical energy systems on land, in space and at sea. Research projects related to physics-based modeling for the design and optimization of electric drives in their operating environment. Part of this work utilizes online dynamic parameter optimization for controller development in energy systems.

    The general research of our group is in the area of design automation for electronic systems.  More specifically, our current interests include real time computing, embedded system design, power aware computing, reconfigurable computing, advanced computer architecture, and high performance computing.
  • Modeling and Networking Systems Lab (ModLab)

    A common research theme is to develop efficient and effective modeling and simulation techniques for studying computer systems and computer networks, in particular, high-performance computing (HPC) systems and large-scale computer networks.
  • RFComm Lab

    The RFCOM Lab at Florida International University in the College of Engineering and Computing is devoted to world-class research in antennas, RF systems, sensors and sensing, wireless power transfer, THz, photonics, propagation, scattering, wireless communications, signal processing, and sensor fusion.

    We are a Florida International University program located in Largo, Florida. Founded in 1995, we provide quality forensic services including training, assessment, research and technology assistance to the justice and forensic communities. For the forensic science community and its users to have complete confidence in the quality of the science services provided to the justice community as it strives to ensure public safety.
